Successful students at Eaton Bank Academy are celebrating after picking up an exceptional number of awards and bursaries at the Congleton Sports Awards last week.

Brothers Tom and Ben Arkle, who compete in swimming at regional and national level received bursaries of £250 and £500 to support their ongoing training and development and Ben received the ‘Outstanding Male Sports Award.’ Chloe Doggett (Year 10) received the award for ‘Young Sports Achiever’ for her exceptional success in the pole vault and Dominic Stafford (Year 11) picked up a £250 bursary to support his training in running and the modern biathlon. Dominic also received a ‘Young Sports Achiever’ award.

There were cultural and volunteering awards as well as sporting ones and Eaton Bank Sixth Form student, Beth Evans, was delighted to receive a £500 bursary in recognition of ‘Outstanding Cultural Contribution,' which she plans to use to fund a school and community newspaper. Amber Barnett (Year 9) received a £100 bursary for dance, and Nathan Davies, Penri Davies and Tom Leese each received a 'Young Volunteer' award for their contribution to the outstanding Eaton Bank Olympics in July.

As if the extraordinary individual successes of Eaton Bank students weren’t enough, the school itself was awarded the 'London 2012' Award for its own Olympic Games, which attracted attention from sporting celebrities, local politicians, and local business leaders. Eaton Bank Academy Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator, Cathy Evans, said "We are absolutely delighted to see so many of our students’ achievements being celebrated here tonight.

Our school motto is 'Believe in Success' and these young people are demonstrating ambition, determination and self-belief in the pursuit of their dreams. We couldn’t be more proud of them." Head of PE, Sue Richards, who put forward the majority of the school’s nominations, was also keen to praise the students. "We have so many fantastic sporting success stories at Eaton Bank. We are delighted that some of our most dedicated students have been honoured tonight."
